PUPS Book Discussion Group

Students 4th grade & up, would you like to have a book discussion with a friendly border collie named Lady Mary? Join Lady Mary and educator Kim Schwalbach from PUPS (People Understanding Pets) as you discuss the book Wish, by Barbara O'Connor.

Plot summary: Eleven-year-old Charlie Reese is sent to live with a family she barely knows in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, but with the help of a skinny stray dog who captures her heart and a neighbor boy named Howard, she learns what the real meaning of family may be.

The discussion will take place over three sessions, Thursdays, February 8, 15, and 22, 6 - 7 p.m. each evening. Each participant will receive a free copy of the book to keep. The first two sessions you will discuss the book, and for the third session participants will paint a water bowl for a dog that is special to them.

Space is limited. Advance registration required. Participants are registering to attend all three sessions. After registration, come to the Children's Desk at the Decatur Public Library to pick up your free copy of the book. (The book is also available in print in our library catalog.)

The program will be led by Humane Educator Kim Schwalbach from the Decatur & Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation.
