Thursday October 24th 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the Madden Auditorium
Artist David Barista leads a STEAM workshop about one of the most important exports of Mexico dating back to the 16th century. Cochineal is an insect that lives on the prickly pear cactus producing carminic acid from which an all natural red dye is derived. Participants will mix the natural dye with a variety of materials in order to test the PH balance and achieve a spectrum of all natural colors. Original works of art will be created from your vibrant palette of all natural paint. Ages 8 and up are welcome!
