Children's Section

For the moment, the physical library is closed, but staff are still active and available with resources to help as you shelter at home with your kids.

We have a wealth of online resources for kids, educational and entertaining, including e-books, audiobooks, videos and even online tutoring, that you can access with your smartphone, tablet, or computer from home with your Decatur Public Library card. Let us know if we can help you get started with those.

If you live in Decatur and don't have a DPL card, adults can apply for an e-card right online, and get access to all these resources, with approval within one business day.

And be sure to follow our Seven O'Clock Story Times on Facebook! Every evening, M - F at 7 p.m. our library staff will post a video of a story book read aloud. You don't need a Facebook account to view our page and its content, and you can link to all the previous ones here!

Finally, check out this list of other free online resources currently available for parents and kids.

Questions? Email the library at, message us via Facebook Messenger, or call M - F 217-424-2900 during regular business hours. (If we don't have someone there to answer, press 8 to leave a message, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.)
