Meet the Critters from the Scovill Zoo

Meet and learn about these animals from the Scovill Zoo at the library! Registration opens May 15.

Do you like visiting the Scovill Zoo to see the amazing animals? You'll LOVE the chance to get up close and learn about some of them in these summer programs at the library, all presented by staff from the Scovill Zoo.

Space is limited for some, so advance registration is required. If the program registration is full, you can get on the Waiting List. If you register for a program and find you cannot attend, please let us know as soon as possible so we can open your spot for a child on the waiting list. Scovill Mobile Zoo -- Wednesday, May 31, 10 a.m. - 12 noon -- Children's Department

  • Come May 31 to spend some time getting to know the animals from the Scovill Mobile Zoo. Families will be able to visit three different stations with a variety of zoo animals. The animals will be available in the Children's Area any time between 10 a.m. and 12 noon. You can learn about them from zoo staff, get up close, and even pet some! No registration required.

    That week is also the start of our Summer Reading Challenge! Come to meet the animals, and pick up a reading log & bookmark to start earning fun rewards for reading or listening to books!

What Makes a Good Pet? (for ages 4 - 8) -- Wednesday, June 21, 10 - 11 a.m. -- Children's Auditorium

  • What animals make good pets and how do we choose a pet that will fit best with our lifestyle? What is needed to take care of these animals? Join us as Scovill Zoo’s mobile zoo program discusses “What Makes a Good Pet?" Kids will enjoy about an hour long presentation as zoo volunteers take out several animal ambassadors for the kids to see up close and touch.

    This program is for kids 4 to 8 years old. Space is limited, so advance registration is required.

Animal Classification (for ages 8 - 14) -- Tuesday, June 27, 2 - 3 p.m. -- Children's Auditorium

  • What makes mammals different from reptiles, and birds different from insects? What is a unique characteristic that all birds share? Join us as Scovill Zoo’s mobile zoo program discusses “Animal Classification." Kids will enjoy about an hour long presentation as zoo volunteers take out several animal ambassadors for the kids to see up close and touch.

    This program is for kids 8 to 14 years old. Space is limited, so advance registration is required.
