Special Interests

I enjoy reading non-fiction, but my favorite fiction authors include Lois Lowry and Suzanne Collins.

Born, raised, and stayed a Decaturite! I graduated from the University of Illinois – Springfield with a Bachelor in Management and after 10 years in advertising, I decided to take time off to raise my family. I home-schooled our kids for the next 10 years, spending lots of hours with them in the library. It became my heart’s desire to work there after my kids entered high school. I started working at the library in 2004, and in 2011, my friend and co-worker, Alissa Henkel, and I created the story-acting program, READiculous. READiculous performs assemblies making books come to life for grade schools, library events, and other organizations to promote reading. As of 2018, we have performed over 250 shows for over 35,000 people!

We’ve also developed the program READiculous, JR to work with 10-14 year olds doing improv and getting even more READiculous!

It is better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring!
